***SEE UPDATE BELOW*** If you've never been in the military, then you may not appreciate this bag. Otherwise you will understand that it is meant to be modular and you outfit it as the mission dictates. In my case a Lenovo X240. Ubiquiti WiFi station. Power pack, DC-DC power supply. AC power supply. A couple of USB 1TB drives. Notepads, pen, pencil, sharpie. And yes I CCW. This is not for the boardroom or office, it is a field pack. If you're looking for a trendy messenger bag, you'll need to keep looking, you will not be very happy with this bag. If you're out in the field and need to be able to carry your essential gear then this the bag for you.***UPDATE***Ok now that I've used the bag for a few weeks I can now report on how it's holding up. The bag has a major design flaw that isn't noticeable at first; the outer flap section - the one with the quick pull out for concealed carry, on the inside it has a zipper section and a large velcro strip. The velcro is so that the flap can be quickly opened to expose your weapon or whatever you have in that pocket. This means that the entire weight of the outer flap is supported by a very small section of poorly sewn material. On my bag this section has started to come undone. It will soon be wide open and the outer flap and its pockets will fall free. Other than that issue the bag design and layout is still top notch. I'm hoping to get this resolved with Amazon or the vendor soon.Bought this case, it broke with in the first 6 months couldn’t return it to Amazon so I figured I was stuck. But 6 months later I found out Red Rock offers a 2 year warranty and I though awesome. After 3 attempts to contact them finally got them and was told, it was a weight issue not a manufacturing issue. Which was funny cause all I carry is some papers and a Mac book pro. Then they told me that and I quote “You have used the bag for over a year, I think if it was a poor stitching it would have failed long before now.” So much for that 2 year warranty. And if you look at the pictures the handle had no been sewn all the way into the bag so it pulled out without ripping the stitching if it had been abused the stitching would of ripped. Just be very clear this company will not honor its 2 year warranty so I would find a different bag. And Amazon won’t do anything either.I’m so bummed. I really love this bag. I don’t use it every day And already one of the top straps pulled right off and now I’m seeing in about to happen to another.Thanking those who replied to my inquiry about the shoulder straps. Yes, easily stored out of sight inside built-in pocket. Would never know they are there. So I just received the one I ordered (tan) and first impression is that it is well made. I guess that's why they give a lifetime guarantee. Cool. I have a heavy DELL Latitude laptop and needed a briefcase large enough to fit it inside...and it fits perfect with the bonus of a tie-down strap. Also needed to carry my laptop charger [and camera and one of the front pockets does that well.] Overall, looks great and does exactly what I want it to do. Fast Forward 7 weeks. Yes, 5 stars. Using daily with heavy load. No tears. No issues. But still, don't be yanking hard on zippers, straps, etc. Would easily buy again.I needed something functional & funky for my 17" laptop & gear. This bag has lots of space, tons of features and a cool look in Green(not the typical Black corporate luggage-look). It's a functional military style bag, so if that's your thing like me, you'll love it. The size is just right for a 17" laptop, it's not so big that it can't go through doors without snagging. I like the front ID holder, Molle-type attachments and large Velcro loop pad in front. You can securely attach things as well as stick on some personalization (name patch, blood type patch, camera or phone pouch, etc...). There are also some interesting easy-access pockets just behind the front pouches. These seem to work well for whatever you might want quick access to...Only criticism is that I have to open 2 buckles, the Velcro carry handle & outside zipper to access my laptop. It's a bit much, but your laptop is certainly secure! This is my everyday bag now. I'll probably order another in Black for when I have to look more "corporate" for clients, but in a cool way.The materials and stitching feel well done. This feels like a $100 bag. Lots of pockets. Zippers are good quality. The "front" pocket/section is a Velcro and buckle closed pass through that has straps which allow it to act like a shelf when open if you want. There are handles on the top and sides. I especially like the hide away back pack straps. Unfortunately those are not detachable if you don't want the bulk.Great bag, and seems very durable. It could do with some more molle straps, maybe replace the Velcro. The straps are very comfortable, and the Velcro that closes the pockets is very strong. If you chose to not use the backpack straps you can remove it and put it into a pocket in the back. I do not have a concealed gun in it, but the pocket where it goes is easily accessible and convenient for other items such as knives. The only real issue that I have is that it does not have pen slots. This is the third or fourth Red Rock bag I have purchased, and I have yet to be disappointed!I also have a few books and a textbook in a large three ring binder in the bag and it fits perfectly. Lots of size and worth the money. This is a great bag. It will hold a 17 inch laptop snug, but the zipper closes and that's good. It can expand an additional 2 inches making it an ideal travel backpack (or briefcase). I only wish the zippers were heavier and the fabric also. I've been using this for a few months now and everything works as it should. The front flap will allow you to carry rolled up blueprints or a long tri-pod in briefcase mode. In backpack mode, it is like it always was a well made backpack. I'm very happy with this bag. Had the bag approximately 14 months. While the material it’s made out of is durable and of good quality, the zippers are not. BOTH zippers failed for the main compartment and completely broke off making the bag totally unusable. While I don’t expect this product to last a lifetime, I do expect it to last longer than a year with moderate use. I’ve taken the bag to a couple of tailors and it would cost almost as much as the bag itself to have the bag repaired. My only suggestion for the manufacture would be to use more durable zippers in their construction. Otherwise it’s a great bag. Falling apart, constantly, after only three months of use. This bag was never meant to be tough. The construction is abysmal and seams are failing everywhere and I can't use it anymore. The worst part is, Red Rock will not honour any kind of defect warranty. I will never buy anything from Red Rock again.Great laptop bag. Seems very well made so far but to be honest, I haven't travelled much w/ it yet. My laptop (16 3/8" x 10 1/2") will not fit in the nylon sleeve but just fits inside the padded perimeter. The 3 carry straps and optional shoulder straps are very versatile. I thought there were only 2 carry handles so even better. Loads of zippered pouches and there is even a zippered opening between the 2 exterior pouches (rarely visible in most pics I've seen online). My tablet is also carried in a pelican case and just fits the pouch w/ the MOLLE system straps. I did not try it in the other pouch but might fit there too. I saw other business / school type laptop bags in a local store going for CDN $80-100 and one even higher and believe that unless you need to not look a "field" type, that this is the bag to get! The other bags were nothing special just big brand names, etc. Any bag that is black of course will absorb more heat (not good) and will pick up dust / dirt more. I have no use for the MOLLE system really but great to know that it's there if I need it. Nice to know that I can also put my old Cdn Army Velcro nametag / flag on the outside too. In the other pouches, I also carry earbuds, USB cables, chargers and a small artists easel type metal stand that I use for my tablet. Overall, very pleased w/ the price and free shipping (which got here 2 days before the ETA too). Recommended and I hope everyone else is just as pleased as I was.
